Doodling again...

I took up watercolour pencils again, partly because François was on the computer and I wasn't :P but also because I wanted to water a drawing I'd done and hadn't had the occasion to. Anyway.

So a few days (weeks?) ago I did this drawing of Inara Serra (from the great show Firefly) and here it is in watercolours.

The scan made the reds redder, especially the lips - the little lighter touch on the lower lip is gone - and I messed up the eyes. Ah well /:o)

The other one isn't fanart; it's more random characters who come and go through my head as the mood fits. But I'm rather proud of these, especially the blonde one.

The eyes never fail to give me trouble, I'm afraid :D This, plus the smudges on her cheek and on her neck. But I'll get better eventually :o)

G'night!

You like 'Firefly' too? Gods but you're AWESOME!!! And I am in envy of your watercolour pencil skills. Wow. Just wow.

Those are quite pretty; you're very talented. I think the eyes look great on all of them.

Not for the first time I wish I could draw :P

Thank you very much! A few years ago I was a big fan of Hugo Pratt (still am, actually) and his Corto Maltese series (which is why I never fail to jump when I hear the name as a country in the first Tim Burton's Batman!) and he had a very distinctive style: he could use black markers or watercolours (or both, with more media) but it always had his style on it and I wished I could do something like that. So I drew and I drew and I drew, but I still consider myself as "Not there yet" :D

I couldn't draw for the life of me till I hit junior high school and started doodling on the margins, by the way :P

I don't like Firefly. I love Firefly!! I had never heard of the show till I started spending time on TV Tropes and encountered it on practically every page - plus the trope namers, like "Big Damn Heroes", "I Call It Vera", etc... So a few months ago I downloaded the complete series (but I'm still going to buy the DVD - because I download, but I buy, too :D) and we started watching it and I was utterly and completely hooked. I mean, the characters are so amazing ('course I fangirl Mal somewhat, but I adore Wash and have this weird soft spot for Jayne - go figure :D), and the stories are so great!! So of course I bought Serenity and had my heart ripped off my chest good 'n proper - I am a leaf on the wind... watch how I soar... :'( - and, well... there I am :o)

Watercolours are tricky because you haven't got much room for error - your first brush stroke has to be good. Which means that, if you're lucky, your dumb stroke can look good :D Thanks a lot! ♥

I was out of the Big Damn Loop myself until about a year ago. A couple of my friends in the Ed. Program were quote-aholics and they knew how into SciFi and Fantasy I was so they started quoting around me and...nothing happened. Next thing I know I'm getting 'I cannot believe that you, of all people, haven't seen Firefly' and unwrapping the series on DVD as a Christmas gift. It is addictive isn't it? XD My sister had to sit me down with a big box of kleenex and make me watch 'Serenity.' I knew it was coming...and it still broke my heart.

Darling from what I've seen, all your strokes look good. ;)

I've been doodling since junior high as well (the margins of notebooks for 11 years are completely filled up), and can still only manage drawings that look like they're by a 10 year old :> My mother used to be an artist, and my sister's not bad, but the art gene passed me by.

I mean, really.
