Autoformatting's still not working (although apparently I can now embed an image) but I just have to share this, because half an hour later I still find it so bloody unbelievable :o) Also, since the only people I know in real life who know what fanfiction means for me are my fiancé (whom I can always count on for support) and my best friend (who is great, but lives miles away), this is just as good a place as any to gush :o)

I apologise in advance for the outrageous use of smileys and capital letters in this post, and its perfectly egregious length. I'm just excited and happy to ridiculous levels.

See, I've gone through a bad case of writer's block since the end of 2010, and during that time I just couldn't write anything longer than a sentence (we've all had moments like that, it's infuriating and frustrating); then sometime last November, I rediscovered Hogan's Heroes and plot bunnies began to nibble again. And for the first time, I completed a story that wasn't a one-shot (well, it's a series of 5 interconnected one-shots, really, but hey, that's something) - I've been writing fanfiction for more than ten years and Soul Food was the first chaptered story I managed to complete. It's not the best story ever, but it was written with heart and a great deal of fondness, because I really love these characters.

Now. It just so happens that the Hogan's Heroes FFnet fandom (who are a rather lovely and encouraging bunch of talented writers and people) has organised an annual election of the best HH fanfiction since 2003 (I think), and it's called the Papa Bear Awards; people nominate their favourites in a number of categories, and then vote to elect the best. There's Short/Long Drama/Comedy/General, Most Unique Story, Best Crossover/Supernatural/Slash, Best Story of the year, Best Portrayal of a Canon Character/Canon Extra/Original Character, Best Teaser, and Best Quotes.

That's where the caps come back. MY STORY WAS NOMINATED FOR 5. FRICKIN. CATEGORIES - Best Long Comedy, Most Unique, Best Portrayal of a Canon Characters (two characters, at that!!), and Best Quotes (again, two quotes!) Plus Best Story, and only 8 stories (out of about 200) made this category. I don't think I'll be coming down from that cloud of unadulterated glee anytime this week :o)

Now, if I stand back and (try to) see things in an objective point of view, I know this is "only" fanfiction - not exactly grande littérature, if you see what I mean - and while Hogan's Heroes is a great comedy show, with a great potential for drama, it's a guilty pleasure for so many people that it's impossible for me to, say, call my mum and gloat about it with anything close to seriousness. BUT HOT-DAMN, I WANT TO JUMP AROUND AND YELL AND SING AND HUG SOMETHING TILL IT CHOKES :D

It's now 1:40AM, and how on Earth am I supposed to fall asleep now? :o]
