I'd typed a whole update, got curious about the LJ crossposting settings, clicked the link, lost everything. Typical.

Anyway, it's been a while, huh? I can't believe the last post I made here was before my third nephew was born (bringing the total number to four kids!), before plaguetimes, and before 2020 redefined my meaning of "année de merde". Also before I discovered I not only wanted to but also physically could write smut without self-combusting! Whoo-hoo! For some reason it's all been [canon male character/original male character] and canon male character/original male character/original female character], which means I seem to be unable to write smut more than five people and their cat want to read (when I'm lucky). So I tend to treasure these five people (and cat)'s comments. A LOT.

Since I feel I can only post so much canon character/OMC before it gets weird (or I get too self-conscious, either works), I think I'm going to post the next one here. DW allows "anonymous" comments (ie. from people who don't have an account) and since Pillowfort is down until at least late April, it just belatedly hit me that this is a good place to post, Actually!

So I don't know if I'm going to post the entire One-Step, Two-Step, Waltz series; they're pretty snug on AO3. But. I'll probably post the more recent stuff I wrote:

a) Story 1: uncle and (6-years-old) nephew have a nice day out in 1930s Brighton. Nephew makes a friend, uncle makes (discreetly) A Friend; the two adults agree that while the timing is pretty bad they both want to see more of each other and agree on going on a date;
b) Story 2: the date! Uncle and friend go see the aquarium, visit Brighton, have a pint and a nice time - and also find a discreet hotel where they can safely have A Nice Time. My favourite kind of smut, warm and soft and all about the human connection. Contains a passing reference to our point of view character having had a Not So Nice time in the middle of WW1.
c) Story 3: the Not So Nice time in the middle of WW1. For some reason the idea wouldn't leave me alone till I wrote it. I'm almost done with it; it's sad and dreary but I'm determined to make it end on a hopeful and warmer note. And then hopefully I can come back to writing characters connecting with one another on all sorts of levels and making one another happy ^^

Y'know, I'll be celebrating my 39th birthday in a month and a half. If you had told past me from two years ago that I'd be writing fics with characters taking off their clothes, I would have gone bright red and not believed you in the slightest. But life is full of surprises that way :o)

I nicked this series of questions from [livejournal.com profile] marie1964 and [livejournal.com profile] rose_of_pollux (who borrowed it from [livejournal.com profile] neverfading). Let's see...

Cut for friend-list friendliness... Hey, alliteration! )

Well, that's it :o)
belphegor1982: (Default)

Procrastinating instead of writing - which admittedly can count as procrastination in itself, because there are a hundred things I could should be doing... How sad is that? :o)

Anyway. I'm considering posting a snippet/story or two only here, a follow-up on Bobby, Robert, Pauline and co. (once I finish it, anyway; I'm still working on the first chapter) that consists of six phone calls between the boys/their families. It's post-war, with a lot of original characters, and nothing much really happens, so I don't know 1) if it's good enough, 2) if anyone will be interested in reading it, or even 3) whether I'll see it through. I'll do my best.

In the meantime, the last chapter of Soul Food!

Fandom: Hogan's Heroes
Chapter: Bouillon de Poule (5/5)
Characters: Sergeant Schultz, Corporal Newkirk, Colonel Hogan, Sergeant Kinchloe, Sergeant Carter
Rating: G
Genre: drama, humour
Pairing: none

January 1945: How Schultz Learned To Stop Worrying And Let Prisoners Make Chicken Soup. )

It's the first time I've ever been able to write "the end" at the end of a multi-chaptered story. Ever. I don't know if it actually counts (if it doesn't, then Into the Woods is the first actual multi-chaptered story I managed to finish) but when I wrote these words, boy they meant a lot.

Writing this story confirmed something, too: I really really like Newkirk and LeBeau. Writing their dialogue (to or about each other) was one of my very favourite things in Soul Food :o)
belphegor1982: (Louis LeBeau)
Well, I intend to post the 4th chapter of Soul Food and I post the 5th and last instead. Typical :P

Magret de canard – usually just called "magret" – is roasted duck breast (Sud-Ouest cuisine tends to feature duck prominently), and together with gratin dauphinois, it's probably one of my very favourite dishes when done well. It's not gourmet food (it does require some culinary knowledge, though, compared to something like garbure, which is basically leftover soup), but it's absolutely delicious :o)

Fandom: Hogan's Heroes
Chapter: Gratin Dauphinois (et Magret de Canard) (4/5)
Characters: Sergeant Schultz, Corporal LeBeau, Corporal Newkirk, Sergeant Carter
Rating: G
Genre: drama, humour
Pairing: none

August 1944: Is the gratin dauphinois burning? )

This is probably my favourite chapter; it's the one I enjoyed writing most, anyway. Hope you liked it, too :o]

So... Took this "Which Hogan's Heroes" Character are you" test (which I filched borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] rose_of_pollux. I fixed a typo or two (they dropped Kinch's "h" and Schultz's "c") because I tend to obsess about getting people's (and characters') names right. Big surprise, I am...

This suspense is killing me! ...Okay, no, it isn't :D )

Not much of a surprise, perhaps, but I'm still glad! Plus that description does fit LeBeau to a T (and yeah, I must admit I see a lot of myself in that, too - at least the first two sentences). I'm slightly worried that Klink and Hochstetter are so high up on the list, though... Honestly I thought I was more Carter and Schultz :D

Still, rather fun :o]
belphegor1982: (Louis LeBeau)
Autoformatting's still not working (although apparently I can now embed an image) but I just have to share this, because half an hour later I still find it so bloody unbelievable :o) Also, since the only people I know in real life who know what fanfiction means for me are my fiancé (whom I can always count on for support) and my best friend (who is great, but lives miles away), this is just as good a place as any to gush :o)

I apologise in advance for the outrageous use of smileys and capital letters in this post, and its perfectly egregious length. I'm just excited and happy to ridiculous levels.

Hope the LJ cut thing works... )

It's now 1:40AM, and how on Earth am I supposed to fall asleep now? :o]
belphegor1982: (Default)
(I have no idea how you make the "LJ user" HTML work in the title... ah well. I'll nose around LJ and find out.)

So I lifted this "Strike-through what you've done before" meme from [livejournal.com profile] kcscribbler (who in turn "snitched" it from [livejournal.com profile] charleygirl), because I found it darned interesting :o) It's rather long, though - 100 questions :o)

So I LJ-cut it for F-list friendliness. )

58 out of 100 – not bad :o)

Still looking for a job... After a week of eventful holidays. We went to Spain, we went to Agen, and to Bordeaux... Lots of fun, but also lots of driving. I can't wait for the Best Beloved to take his driver's licence so we can split the time behind the wheel :o)
belphegor1982: (pipe)
I did a "random MP3 player" meme waaay back in November 2009, and only remembered it when [livejournal.com profile] runenklinge  posted her own :D I had posted the results on my DeviantART journal page, which enabled me to find them again. Brain like a sieve these days, really :P (The fact that I'm recovering from a nasty cold that makes my head feel all cottony notwithstanding ;o)

The only compromise I made was skip the French songs, because not a lot of people would know what I mean. 'Sides, they often weren't funny enough as an answer :P

"Chain of Fools" :D )

In other news, I'm still desperately stuck on every fanfic I have in the pipeline (so to speak) and the only thing I managed to draw was a portrait of Ninjette (of Empowered fame) with reference I might post when I scan it. Admittedly, it's not shabby, but I botched the highlights on the leather and part of the hair :P Ah well.

Also, good news - we'll definitely be staying in the South West of France next year (and a priori, the years after that)! No Paris for us, yay! :o)
belphegor1982: (aw yeah piper)
So, someone on this [livejournal.com profile] allthingsgood  community decided to create a Secret Santa style love meme (I dropped my name to see what happened - so far, nothing :P) basically, you leave anonymous comments on what you like about the person who posted his/her user name. It got so that they posted a second part, so if you leave your name now we'll know you'll be on the first (few) page(s) :o)

In other news, I finally started Christmas shopping, and can't wait to go and see Megamind tomorrow with the school kids! Unfortunately (maybe), I'll be with the rowdiest bunch of the lot, the 1st graders (we say "CP", for "Cours Préparatoire") of one class (there's two of them) and I hope that I'll be able to enjoy myself in the middle of all the questions and comments and "I want to go to the toilet" :P

Because apparently I've been nice this year, despite having ruled Canada as a cruel and heartless dictator. Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] runenklinge 's journal :o)

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In September I helped [livejournal.com profile] ivybramble see the light (8 points). In August I gave [livejournal.com profile] strainconductor a kidney (1000 points). In February I ruled Canada as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). Last Thursday I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). In March I signed my organ donor card (28 points).

Overall, I've been nice (337 points). For Christmas I deserve the Rock Band Beatles Wii game!

Sincerely,
belphegor1982

Fun little thing :D Funnily enough, I have had my organ donor card for a couple years now, and I think I got it in March :P And I actually "deserved" an X-Box 360, but since I already have a Wii and I know what I want for Christmas ;o)

... And because much I as love the Joker in every incarnation (although Mark Hamill's animated version and Pierre Hatet in French, although not many people know his actual name - it's very much a case of "Hey, it's that voice!" - will always remain THE version for me), this faux motivational poster I found is just awesome.

Why so serious, then? )

...I adore Beetlejuice.
belphegor1982: (flash)
Every now and then, you get a really nasty shock, something unpleasant that's crept up on you and that you haven't seen coming till it hits you in the face with a sound like a wet fish. (I like that metaphor - it's got personality. Plus, wet fish - can't go wrong with wet fish.)

...And then again, every now and then you get a really good surprise. The kind that makes your stomach all tight and makes you want to laugh and smile like an idiot because it's as good as it's unexpected. Even though it's kinda silly :D

I'm on TV Tropes. Right there, to be precise - on the DCAU fanfics recommendations page. As an author (for the four of my stories). I know it's stupid, but I can't stop staring at the letters that make my screen name there :P Someone (I know who it is, she's written good DCAU stories - some of which I reviewed - and left me very nice reviews over at FF dot net) actually went to the trouble of recommending every one of my fanfics, and encouraged people to go and read 'em.

I usually browse TV Tropes (waaay too much) looking for Crowning Moments of Awesome/Funny/Heartwarming as well as other tropes, but this is the first time I find a Crowning Moment of Pride there :D

Okay, done now, gettin' back down to Earth :o)

Oh, and we started watching Firefly. Great, great show. I love Wash, and found myself bizarrely identifying to Kaylee :o]
belphegor1982: (Default)
So, hi. If anyone stumbles onto this blog, hey, good to see you. I started it (after years of stalling and not doing it) mainly to be able to post into communities and stuff, so I don't know if I'm gonna get very personal here apart from "Bordeaux is a great place - been living in it for 10 years - too bad I'm moving up north next summer" :P

Anyway, I might use this stuff for updates on fics and fanart and whatnot. Yay :o)

Bye,
Bel :o]
