I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] hogan_macgyver's page and couldn't help trying it!

Rules:
1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

So [livejournal.com profile] hogan_macgyver picked these five... Apart from "Black", which is just a black square, all my icons are (from) drawings of mine.

Flash: About three or four years ago, the Justice League (Unlimited) cartoon was my main fandom, and my favourite character was the Flash, aka Wally West, a sweet goofball who originally hid his insecurities behind bravado and a somewhat childish sense of humour. He still remains my favourite character, because he fails, tries hard, sometimes does do amazing and selfless deeds and is one of the only heroes who actually knows the people in his city and is able to talk down a villain rather than use violence.

Sherlock: This particular drawing is from an unfinished Sherlock Holmes meme I started (and which I will post on DeviantArt as soon as it is finished). It's the 2010 BBC re-invention of Sherlock Holmes in modern London, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (♥!) - a show I really love, clever, witty, hilarious and surprisingly poignant.

Black and white me: I don't even remember when I drew this one. It must have been around 2007 or 2008; I had shortist hair (not that short, though), a new hat, and no tablet yet, so I did this one by mouse. It's the image I default to using, on LJ, on DeviantArt, on Facebook, on Tumblr... A five-minute doodle and so far I haven't been able to come up with a picture I like better. Ah well.

Louis LeBeau: (one of) my favourite character(s) from Hogan's Heroes. As a Frenchwoman I'm very sensitive to the way my countrymen are portrayed in English-speaking fiction (mostly American), if only because there is such a lot of it, although I try not to be. But it still rankles (a lot) whenever people think the "cheese-eating surrender monkeys" thing is funny, especially where World War Two is concerned. I suppose one of the things I love most about LeBeau is that he so completely and utterly blows this stereotype to pieces. He has his shortcomings, some of his reactions (mostly when Marya is around, but also his and Newkirk's mocking of Carter's Sioux heritage) make me want to thump him over the head, but goodness, I love this character with all my heart.

Black: I only used this one twice, and I dearly hope I won't have to use it again in a long time. I created it when my granddad passed away in summer 2010, because the last thing I felt like doing was smiling and I wanted my icon to reflect that. Turns out I used it again a month later, when my grandma died, too, since I simply did not feel like putting up a picture of me smiling or something fandom-related. I haven't deleted it because I know that if I do LJ will replace it by the default icon.

And... that's it. Now - do you lot have some unicorns for me?

In other news, my contract ended last Halloween, so now I'm free as a bird again and getting back to normal (my right ring finger still gets sort of stuck in the morning), although there's a ton of stories to review I've saved in my tabs and I still haven't done much in the way of writing... But I'm working on changing that :o]

Title: When the World Stops
Author: Belphegor
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John Watson
Pairing: none
Spoilers: major spoilers for "The Reichenbach Fall"
Genre: lots of hurt, and little comfort.
Author's Note: jotted this down last night after finally getting to see that episode, because that sentence would not let me go during the last few minutes.
Warning: major character death, some stream-of-consciousness, and no beta whatsoever.

What do you do when the world stops? )

Oh, Mr Freeman. I didn't think I'd cry at the end of that one, with the foregone conclusion and everything, but you damn well made me.

Finally managed a somewhat decent fanart of the Granada version of Sherlock Holmes, yay! So, here are Watson and Lestrade popping their heads round a door and discovering the alleged murder victim of the story, while Holmes looks smug in the background, having of course figured it out :D

Smug Holmes is smug ;o) )

Based on the TV series, with Jeremy Brett as Holmes, David Burke as Watson, and Colin Jeavons as Lestrade. I love any scene that has those three characters together, they play off each other ridiculously well :P

Also, got myself the Firefly BluRay, and since the weather this weekend was crappy we snuggled on the couch and watched a few episodes. Boy, I had almost forgotten how epically funny and heart-wrenching it turn this show could be... Really, a pity that they couldn't make more episodes. Bah, at least we have those :o]

I've been reading Sherlock Holmes fanfiction by Aragonite /[livejournal.com profile] karstcrystal lately; she's an author who writes excellent Holmes and Watson, but mostly focuses on the Inspectors, Constables and everyone (Canon or original) who works at Scotland Yard. Since reading her fics (which are instructive, character AND plot-based  and as funny as they can be a punch in the gut) is a guarantee of never looking at these characters the same way again, I once again found myself on the bus with time (one hour and fifteen minutes to work and back) on my hands as well as paper and a pencil. Oh, and now I can't think of other possible first names for Inspectors Lestrade and Bradstreet.

So, top left to bottom right: Roger Bradstreet, Geoffrey Lestrade, Stanley Hopkins and Tobias Gregson. Lestrade looks way too young and I was toying with a design for Hopkins that didn't work, but for a bus doodle it's not too shabby :o)

Meet London's Finest :o) )

Another bus doodle. I did have Colin Jeavons in mind as a design, but it's been absolute years since I watched the Granada series and it shows. Plus, I can never make my drawings match the model :/

Doubtful Lestrade )

Yet another bus doodle. When Tobias Gregson is smiling like that, you know something bad is about/happening to somebody else.

Smug Gregson is smug )

Aaaand this one is a bus doodle that grew a bit. I have no idea what happened, but it's got Bradstreet stunned, Gregson in a grimly analytical mood, and Lestrade smiling. Not in a nice way at all.

I'm a bit disappointed, because that wasn't quite what I'd intended Lestrade to look like, and I'm not sure the bus' movements are entirely to blame.

The aftermath of a case gone awry. )

Now, they're all unscathed alive and standing, at least. I'd love to see someone work up a story on that basis :D

If the images don't appear wholly, click right and on "Display picture" :o]

Sherlock Holmes is one of those fandoms I come back to every so often, and between the 2009 film with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law that I saw again recently, and the BBC's fantastic new series Sherlock (set in 2010 London), I find myself engrossed once more in the Canon (coming up to the climax of The Hound of the Baskervilles as my bedside book) and various fanfics (FF dot net author KCS writes excellent stuff, by the way, especially if like me you're a fan of both Holmes and Watson).

So, as usual when the need to draw takes me, I doodle. Here's a couple I did after hitting the 'Pause' button on my player during the end titles of the 2009 Sherlock Holmes:

Scruffy!Holmes )

And Watson. Rather proud of that one.

Low angle shot!Watson )

And since I'm working on a SH meme, here's my answer for question number five (I might post it when it's finished) - the first drawing of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as John I'm (somewhat) proud of. Somewhat.

The original Dynamic Duo )

Oh, and I did a DC meme way back in January - and had a lot of fun.

Aw yeah DC! :D )

Colours at last :o)

Now, school's started again, and believe it or not it was a genuine blast to see all these faces again. The kids are so sweet - I got welcome back hugs (more like flying tackles for some!), grins, and "When are we going to the library/computer room with you again?" questions. Plus, there's been some changes in the staff, and a teacher who was very stressed out (and stressed everybody out) is gone, replaced with a charming, funny teacher whom I got a good feeling about.

Now there's just the question of how I'm going to go to work on Tuesday (bus strike), and how we're going to move into our new future flat (after four years of living in a one-room one, it's a welcome change) and when. It scares me a bit - I don't like moving houses - but we highly need the space and François needs somewhere to work that's not the bedroom. (We're gonna have a bedroom! Proper! Yay :P)

Now, if only I could find I Shall Wear Midnight in my bookshop...
