Oh, I think I do have an idea about anticipation - especially since we have so many hour zones between us, so these last couple of days have been very much "Wake up, check mail" and "Check mail, turn off computer and go to sleep" because I knew whatever change would probably be during the (my) night :P
I had read the expansion comics, and while most of them were a genuine pleasure to read (I recall a partnering-up of Flash and the Atom that was both really funny and rather tragic), I didn't much care for their treatment of the Rogues in general. I mean, in the cartoon Mirror Master (based on his accent) is very likely to be Sam, and they switched to Evan in the comics, Scottish accent and all. And I don't know whether the comics were supposed to happen during or after the cartoons, and I may be reading too much (or too little) in Killer Frost's characterisation, but pairing up her and Mick seemed a little... OOC. Not to mention gratuitous. Anyway. I conveniently choose to ignore the expansion comics as far as the Rogues were concerned :P
Seeing Destroyer again a few weeks ago and realising that a lot of characters I was... fond of (or just even actually knew) just died and were never referenced again (in the remaining twenty minutes) really... hit. You know. Copperhead. The Shade. Goldface. Dr Destiny. (Granted, you only saw him in one episode, but what an episode!!) And Weather Wizard. I just couldn't not write something on that; I had planned at least a conversation (maybe with a punch-up in the middle) between Mick and Len at the end of Harry's, but it didn't quite fit what I had in mind for an epilogue... And then the occasion presented itself. Simpled things up :o)
The dialogue (because once the light goes out, it's pretty much dialogue only, except when Len lets the little voice at the back of his brain do the talking) between Len and Mick practically wrote itself. It's so easy for me to see their DCAU incarnations as Heterosexual Life Partners, because they complement each other ridiculously well and play off each other and make for a good read :o)
The Trickstermobile... Can you believe I almost cut out that part? I thought the medical drama would be kinda boring and I hadn't written it that well and I hesitated for a long time before making the decision. The two things that weighed the balance in favour of keeping that part were 1) the Trickstermobile, and 2) Piper using Kick Out The Jams to break the door down. Because that song is so awesome it totally could bring down the house :D
Oh Susanna. Heh. First time I searched for it and heard it on Deezer, it was a Pete Seeger version with the "red, red rose" bit. Then I searched a bit more for the MP3 and found another Seeger version with the "buckwheat cake" instead. Hence the squabbling about song lyrics. Decided to go with the rose when I sing it, though, because it rolls easier off my poor foreigner's tongue :P
