"My fanfictions" meme :o)

1. Which is your favourite fic?
Probably The Man That Got Away, because it was my first (of two) Watchmen stories, and I’m proudest of that one. I had my little fun with parallels and slightly spooky (at posteriori) bits, the songs mentioned have become two of my very favourites, and the overall working/personal relationship between Nite Owl and Rorschach was fascinating to delve into.
2. Which is your best-received fic?
When I look at the number of reviews, hits and favourites in a given period of time, I have to say Villains. I’m very fond of that one, too.
3. Which is your worst-received fic?
Foreigners, my other Watchmen fic. I suppose it doesn’t help that it’s a one-shot set two decades after the main events, and told from the POV of an OFC.
4. Which is your angsty-est fic?
Wife, I suppose. It’s not often I have a character (original or not) break down so thoroughly.
5. Which is your funniest fic?
Perhaps Mind The Brat, if only for the deconstruction of the premise (“Jack Sparrow has a daughter”) and the final image.
6. Smuttiest?
Hah! Hm, Sensations (PotC). My first almost-love scene. Nothing graphic, as 1)I don’t like writing/reading graphic smut very much, and 2)it’s about sensations anyway.
7. Fluffiest?
Something (Harry Potter) My first conscious effort at fluff :o)
8. Have you ever made someone cry with a fic?
Apparently, I did with Wake (Discworld, Tiffany Aching series). And someone mentioned “tearing up a bit” at the Mother segment of the DCAU Snapshot Collection.
9. Which fic frustrates you the most?
Everybody Comes to Harry’s, a currently on-going fic that’s only missing two chapters. I’m stuck, and I can’t seem to be able to do Piper justice. Argh.
10. Which fic was the most fun to write?
I reckon First Time for Everything, because it was the first time I wrote in a different fandom after only writing about The Mummy in 5 years or so; my first foray into Pirates of the Caribbean. I had discovered Terry Pratchett, and although PotC is decidedly NOT Discworld, in retrospect I find little bits in this story that were influenced by Pterry.
11. Who is your favorite OC you’ve ever created?
Tom Ferguson, for Fairy Tales and Hokum. Perhaps the best remedy against Mary Sues is to go around creating characters as tools first – their role in the story, their different interactions with the canon characters and what they bring out in them – and build them from there. I needed somebody who would be almost a polar opposite to Jonathan, physically and character-wise, but not so much that they couldn’t be credible as old friends. In the end, I like him because he’s a simple guy (although not that kind of simple), who loves his wife, his job and life in general, and who tries to struggle out of a difficult and complicated situation. Plus I like his interaction with Jon – I don’t feel it’s a rip-off of any other character’s, and that’s really important.
12. Are you better at oneshot or multipart?
Procrastination and writer’s block aside, I can manage multi-parters generally – if I start knowing how the whole thing will unfold, which is generally the case. But one-shots are interesting, if only for the challenge.
13. What character do you think you’re the best at portraying?
Depends on my current kicks. Five years ago I would have said Jonathan Carnahan (from The Mummy), his speech and his mannerisms came naturally enough to me. These days I think Wally West (the Flash). Interestingly (or not), both characters are not the main characters of the fandom (although they are part of the main gang), they’re often the comic relief of the group and really not the most serious :D
14. What character is the most difficult to portray?
I’m having trouble with Sam Scudder (Mirror Master), because I find it difficult to get a hold on his character. His chapter in Everybody Comes To Harry’s was easy enough because of the context of Thanagarian occupation, but in Piper’s chapter I’m having trouble with him.
15. Tag five other authors!
You can do it if you want to, I'm curious :o)
I'll probably post a "master-list" of my fics sorted out by fandom one of these days - just not when we're busy re-arranging the flat and sorting and tidying stuff :o]
