Okay, so I was working on colouring a drawing for the past two weeks (two weeks!!) - namely this drawing (click'n'display):

...And last night just after I saved for the millionth time and I had almost finished all the colours and lines (only shades to do, and I do it cartoon-style, so they're generally simple) I was met with the sight of... this. (Just replace the name of the file with DCAU Rogues line-up dot xcf).

And when I started the file again, GIMP informed me that the "integrity" of the file had been "compromised" - but not without filling me with false hope by saying that the data had been loaded. Wait, if the data was loaded, that means I have a chance of finding my 10 or so layers again, huh? Huh? Or not :o(

I'm in a funk, so to speak. Fortunately, today is my sister-in-law-to-be's bachelor party (complete with laser game, Turkish baths, and restaurant/karaoke) so it'll take my mind off this. I keep telling myself that after all, it's just a drawing, but it doesn't help. It was time, love and tiny loving tweaking with my faithful tablet. Now I have to start the whole thing again from scratch, and I don't think I have the courage for that. Might wait a day or two, at least.

Hate when that happens - but to have it happen just when I was almost done... makes it worse :'o(

Awww Pumpkin! *hugs* That. Sucks. I really hate it when that happens...although, given my low-tech art approach, it's usually the 'pencil/eraser through the paper' or 'smudged fine liner' variety of death. Hope the party does the trick with regards to cheering you up.

Oh, I really don't underestimate the 'pencil/eraser through the paper' or 'smudged fine liner' variety of death - I only began using the GIMP when I got a tablet and then figured out the layer system. Before that (a few early examples are the Pirates of the Caribbean drawings on my DevArt page, especially the one with the Kraken - I was starting to know what I was doing with the GIMP for the "getting drunk on Christmas" one :o) I used MSPaint and my mouse to colour stuff. No wonder it was slow :P

Gah! I'm late :D Thank you so much for the kind words, they were both needed and greatly appreciated :o]

And, for what it's worth, the line art is fantastic.

It's worth a lot - it always is :o) Thank you very much. I will go back to it, though, if only because 1) it is a good drawing, dammit! and 2) I'm too bloody stubborn to let a dumb technical glitch to stop me :D

Oh, I did have fun yesterday - I'm feeling it sorely now, and we hardly did more than 20 minutes of laser game before relaxing for 2hours and a half at the Turkish bath, but somehow I'm all achy and tired now (sign of good times!). Come to think of it, this might have something to do with the restaurant/karaoke where we had an appointment letting us down and us traipsing around Bordeaux at 10PM in the cold and rain (bloody unseasonably weather!!) and waiting for 30 minutes outside before we could finally sit at a table and eat our fondue :o)

Thanks a lot; I'll try my best this time around and keep my fingers crossed. But it's a psychological thing: the things you didn't get to finish or that are lost are always better than what you do to replace them :o/

In French we call it a hammam. It's a place for relaxation and cleansing the body through water (mainly condensation); it's funny, because I expected the room to be stifling, but due to the water hanging in the air it's very relaxing. We were scrubbed with a massage mitt (to clean out the dead skin) and massaged with scented oils. Plus (after all of that was finished) we were offered mint tea and cakes free of charge. All in all, a good afternoon :o)
